Session Description

The most common infectious diseases in the hospital setting include pneumonia, bacteremia, intra-abdominal, and urinary tract infections.  Appropriate antibiotic selection is critical when an infectious process is suspected. Surgery practitioners should be confident in the interpretation of the microbiological data. This webinar will discuss the specimen, Gram stain, and likely pathogens for common infectious diseases in the hospitalized patient.

Learning Objectives

During this webinar, participants will:

1. Discuss Gram stain and associated microbiology

2. Review the impact of microbiology data

3. Identify the potential causes of fever

4. Identify pathogens associated with infections to design a therapeutic plan to optimize treatment
