1. Recognize signs and symptoms of true newborn surgical emergencies.
2. Differentiate the important types of congenital anomalies and describe the important steps in imaging and intial surgical care.
3. Describe the significance of various symptoms such as bilious emesis in the newborn.
4. Appreciate the common "lumps and bumps" of infancy with focus on prioritization of treatment vs observation.
5. Discuss the surgical approach to neonatal and infant surgical emergencies and recognize those lesions that may need triage to a center with subspecialty pediatric surgical care.

| Dr. Michael J. Allshouse, DO is Professor of Surgery (Pediatrics) at East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine. He recently relocated to Johnson City, Tennessee from California's Central Valley where he was the director of Pediatric surgery and the pediatric trauma program at Valley Children's Hospital in Madera, CA. He trained in general surgery in the U.S. Navy. Michael completed a fellowship in pediatric trauma and burns at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He completed a pediatric surgery residency at The Children's Hospital Denver and the University of Colorado School of Health Sciences. He is a member of the Down syndrome medical interest group and the American Pediatric Surgical Association as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics. He was the first osteopathic surgeon trained and certified as a pediatric surgeon. |

Click the CME Evaluations Button to complete the following tasks:
1) Evaluate each lecture attended by completing the "Select Sessions Attended and Complete Evaluations" task. Physicians will only be able to claim credit corresponding with the sessions they watched in this educational program.
2) Once you complete the session evaluations, please compete the "Overall Evaluation" task, this is a required step. The system will calculate the total number of hours attended after completing the session evaluations and the overall evaluation.
3) Once the above steps are completed in-full, click "Download/Print Certificate with Transcript" link to retrieve your certificate. ACOS will report your credits to the AOA on your behalf at the close of the submission period.
4) Eligible participants must claim CME credits NO LATER THAN 80 days after the completion of program. Attendees that do not submit their evaluation by the deadline WILL NOT receive credit for the 2021 In-Depth Review, there are no exceptions.
